Labour conditions & Employment
Employment is a key element of social inclusion and economic justice. At Radar Europe, we promote initiatives aiming to enhance fair and dignified labour conditions, with a focus on vulnerable and marginalised workers. Our work addresses employment in the context of green transition, migration, digitalisation and structural inequalities across Europe and beyond.
Work-Life Balance
Managing societies with aging populations across Europe requires re-thinking both labour needs and labour efficiency. Together with tailored employment policies, policies to support healthy work life balance contribute to economic resilience in healthy and prosperous societies.
Women are still overrepresented in low paid jobs and carry the heaviest weight of unpaid care work all over Europe. The EU estimates the gender employment gap to be nearly 400 billion euros annually.1 The path to fair work-life balance requires tackling the underlying drivers of inequalities including:
Accessibility to labour markets: Women have harder time accessing job markets and advancing careers
Job security: Women are over-represented in precarious work in the service sectors
Balanced parental leave policies: Women are disproportionately affected by care duties of families and the arrival of children continues to create a long-term gender gap in earnings2
Addressing gender-based violence: Harassment and violence at work and at home affect women’s ability to work
Creation of tax incentives: Women earn less than men and tax systems often favour the breadwinners of the families, which reduces incentives to work outside of homes
Radar Europe strive for better understanding of the root causes of labour market inequalities and social polarisation. Our team works on:
Debt relief and management
Analyses on gendered labour and socio-economic conditions
Creating economic opportunities for populations living in poverty, youth, migrants and persons with disabilities.
Equal Employment Opportunities
Skilled workforce is the cornerstone of European societies. Yet, the more you drift from the societal median, the harder it becomes to access the job market. Rigid norms still shape perceptions of professional profiles and productivity levels one has to follow, making it difficult for many —youth, migrants, minorities, and persons with disabilities— to secure equal opportunities. Labour policies play a crucial role in facilitating employment, but exclusive policies can also have unintended negative consequences, even when efficiently implemented.1
At Radar Europe, we tackle key questions:
Who benefits from labour policies, and how do they impact diverse workforce groups?
How can skilled job seekers and industries connect more effectively?
What policy strategies drive productivity and innovation in evolving labour markets?
How can we design inclusive solutions that tackle labour market exclusion?
How can labour policies adapt to the rise of hybrid and flexible work environments?

- Multi-sectoral approaches, from pro-poor programming to workforce integration
At Radar Europe, we believe that innovation and reliable data are the foundations for effective labour market policies and strive for solutions that are both feasible and impactful.
