Migration & Asylum

Migration and human mobility are crucial for driving economic, cultural, and social transformation. At Radar Europe, we recognise the multifaceted nature of migration and our work spans the entire spectrum of migration issues. From asylum to migration management, from labour migration to the emerging environmental displacement challenges, we ensure that diverse needs are met with a human rights-based approach.

Regular Migration and Migration Management

Effective migration management is essential for ensuring safe, orderly and regular migration. As a complex phenomenon touching every society, migration management requires addressing economic, cultural, and security considerations. The EU approach to migration includes balancing labour market needs, demographic challenges and international commitments with strong governance frameworks. Regular migration pathways - such as work visas, study permits and family reunification—are crucial in reducing irregular migration and the risks associated with it. They support economic growth and foster social cohesion.

Irregular Migration and Return

Irregular migration is a key challenge for the European Union and the international community. Solving irregular migration requires a balance between humanitarian responsibilities, border management and sustainable return policies. Irregular migration pathways in the EU continue to put pressure on asylum systems, reception capacities, and public services. For migrants, the migration journey can be extremely dangerous, frequently exposing them to life-threatening risks and violence by smuggler networks.

EU External Borders

The European Schengen Area is the world’s largest free travel zone encompassing over 4 million square kilometers, 29 countries, and nearly 420 million people. EU external borders regulate the movement of people and goods, ensure security against external threats and manage migration flows. External border management is a key component of the EU’s joint migration governance framework that must strike a balance between European security and international protection of migrants.

Asylum and Refugee Protection

International cooperation is imperative for effective asylum and refugee protection. With challenges such as forced displacement, mixed migration flows, political instability and fragmented legal frameworks, finding workable solutions for human security is more important than ever.
